Below are the monthly reports from your County Councillors for the Radyr & Morganstown Ward.
Cllr Calum Davies – August report
Reports from Cllr Davies from May-August 2024 are absent due to ill health during this period.
Cllr Helen Lloyd Jones – August Report
Received by the Web Team on 6 September 2024
Overview
This month has to belong to all the teenage generation. The A Level results at Radyr Comp were outstanding and so were the GSCE results. Well done all. Teachers and pupils alike. We are very lucky to have such good schools here.
It’s a bit harder to work out whether those living in our ward but studying outside of the ward have also done well. Do let us know. It is important that we recognise the efforts of all of our teenagers.
Radyr Comprehensive
The school won a grant from Cymru Football Foundation’s Fit For Future Facilities Programme as a community facility. With the help of some extra funding from Cardiff Council work has started during the summer holidays on installing a new all-weather pitch. Many people deserve our thanks for the work they put in, including Gail Coombes the Estates Manager at Radyr, Wyn Williams from Radyr Rangers and Steve Morris from Cardiff Council and Sam Lloyd from FAW (Football Association of Wales)
Radyr
Heol Isaf
Impressively, the work to table the zebra crossing and widen the pavement did all happen during the school holidays and is in place. Have been told the gullies are going to be cleaned too.
Drover’s Way
We have been advised that there will be funding for some lighting, so it should feel safer walking from the Clos Parc Radur area into the centre of Radyr soon.
There has been progress re the restoration of the disturbed land by the playground. Being a realist, think if the weather stays wet, we may find we have to wait till next spring. Hoping to be proved wrong. But things have moved forward.
Plasdŵr
Odour at Clos Parc Radur
We have been told that changes have been made at the source of the odour problem. Have had no complaints since June so hoping all will now be well.
Lon Pererinion
Redrow have had a contractor Bell Groundworks on site this week. There is one drain that needs replacing and once that is done, the road surfaces will be brought up to standard. There have been a lot of Chinese Whispers re this work. The important thing is that the surfacing happens.
Morganstown
Radyr Rangers (RR) SECOND PRIORITY
Summer break. Expect to have more news in September
Morganstown Village Hall
The Village Hall would love to hear from anyone in the community who would be interested in helping the Hall, from just volunteering occasionally to being a trustee. Contact morganstownvillagehall@gmail.com
Radyr and Morganstown
Buses FIRST PRIORITY
This is the most important problem we have. Still trying to find solutions.
I have a Facebook page Cllr Helen Lloyd Jones Do please follow me.
Replacement Local Development Plan
This summer, I responded to the Local Heritage List. This is a list of properties that haven’t protection from Cadw but for historical reasons, many of us feel should be safeguarded. If you want to see the List and make your own comments, go to www.cardiffldp.co.uk/local-list. The consultation is open to Sept 18th
Youth Work THIRD PRIORITY
Cardiff Youth Services (CYS) have been coming into the ward and interacting with our youngsters. The numbers meeting the informal group at Radyr Hub are growing which is pleasing. They are restarting in September
Flooding under the M4 bridge
No further news.
Brambles and Overgrowth
Please note that the Parks department has had severe cutbacks and one of the effects is that the service we did have where hedge cutters came round and kept our pavements bramble free is no longer in place. You are entitled to cut back any branch that hangs into your property. Know I have cut some brambles back and have asked others to do the same.
Community Engagement Officer
Would very much like to see a Community Engagement Officer working with our new residents to help them integrate with the community. Have tried to move progress on this.
Next Councillor’s surgery
21 September 10:30 am to 11:30 am at the Ty Nant. Just come along if you want to talk to me.
