Save Morrisons and the Post Office in Station Road

Important update. Cllr Helen has arranged a meeting in the New Schoolrooms, Christ Church for Friday, 5th June from 5:30-6:30pm. Come along to hear the latest news and work out the next steps in the campaign.

As you may have seen in the press over the last weekend, Morrisons are considering closing a number of their local shops in the very near future, including the one in Station Road, Radyr. Cllr Helen Lloyd Jones is leading the fight in opposing. She has established an on-line petition to go the Morrisons Board, which can be accessed at https://tinyurl.com/MorriPetition. Her statement on the petition reads:

The shop accommodates the village Post Office, which constitutes a critical service for the local community, particularly for its significant elderly population who depend upon it for essential daily transactions and access to key services. The loss of this facility would have a considerable and adverse impact on the accessibility of these services and the wellbeing of vulnerable residents.

Moreover, the shop is well positioned for long-term viability and growth. It is located within convenient walking distance of a substantial new residential development, with approximately 7,000 homes planned. This expansion will markedly increase local demand and footfall, providing a strong foundation for the shop to operate as a sustainable and thriving community asset.

In light of these factors, it is imperative that this valued local service is preserved for both current and future residents.

Please access and sign the petition by following the link. A paper copy is also available here which you can download and get your friends and neighbours to sign instead of asking them to access the on-line version. The paper copies need to be returned to 7 Station Road, Radyr (almost opposite Morrisons) by 6th June.

Speed is of the essence. Helen plans to submit the petition no later than 8th June.
