The 2011 Festival has started with a bang with the Royal Wedding Fireworks night at the Tennis Club followed by the the “Alice in Wonderland” Parade and Fete on Saturday. A successful football tournament on Sunday and the Crowning of the Festival Queen on Bank Holiday Monday. There was a large entry for the Fun Run – another great success. Cube Jazz Group entertained jazz enthusiasts in the OCR. Pugh’s Garden Centre hosted a Cheshire Cat Tea party in support of Dan y Bryn Cheshire Home. The first production of Fluellen’s “Uncle Vanja” was staged at Morganstown Village Hall to a capacity audience.The Community Councillors won the Tenovus Quiz again….The Boules was cut short with a heavy downpour, but a final was staged! The Parish Music group sang songs from many popular musicals. The Community Cricket 20 over Match finished despite the weather. The Open Garden at 21 Windsor Road was a great success whilst the 60’s event at the Golf Club ended up dancing inside the Club house. Cantemus Chamber Choir sang in great harmony for a large audience on Sunday night. Curry at the Bombay Blue was hot! Bryn Deri hosted the junior Boules tournament this year. Wednesday brought the lunchtime operatic concert by Jeremy Huw Williams quickly followed by the Senior Citizens Mad Hatters Tea Party where Bryn Deri Choir entertained the guests. A good entry for the Guides Beetle Drive meanwhile over 70 residents were assembled for the first of the Radyr Walks. This walk rediscovered the Industrial time of Radyr and Morganstown following the iron smelting down the feeder to Melingriffiths wheel.One of the highlights of the week was meeting Professor Bernard Knight, author, pathologist and lawyer, writer of many mysteries. The Audio Visual evening brought us all to date with events so far. The last Saturday, a cool and windy day for the Gymkhana and the Open Air Concert. But the many residents who turned out for the concert were royally entertained. Sunday, the last day, but busy. Duck Race, Skateboard Demo, Motor Rally through the village ending up at the Dog Show at Lychgate Gardens where over 40 dogs competed for the best eyes,legs, behaviour and fancy dress.
