Post Office in Station Road – an update

Cllr Helen Lloyd Jones has provided this update (as at 21^st September) on progress on finding a replacement Post Office for R&M.

1. Lauren Fear, a Community Councillor and a Director at Velindre Hospital, has been very proactive towards solving the Post Office problem. She has been to the greengrocer’s, whose wife has a gallery next to his stalls, and it transpires that the space inside is too small to run a Post Office and a gallery. So that idea has been rejected.
2. We have contacted MGY, who had chatted to us about possible opportunities for that space. We have not yet touched base with the gentleman who spoke to us before
3. We have located the owner of the building Morrisons was in and will continue to look at other options fr the site.
4. We have asked the Radyr Methodist Church if they had a room we could use. Although they’d love to help us, they didn’t have the flexibility with the rooms they have to tie one up regularly.
5. We have asked the Old Church Rooms, which are owned by Radyr and Morganstown Community Council, if there is space we could use for a Post Office. The answer was no, because there are so many community activities taking place inside the building.
6. We have asked Cardiff Council if we could locate the Post Office in Radyr Hub. This is a centre which includes a library but also runs community events. We have not had a reply as yet.
7. We noticed that there is a Post Office in the Brecon Co-op. Prior to the Co-op losing money in a computer fraud, they had drawn up plans to extend into the property next to them. If they did that, then it would be good to put a Post Office into that space.
8. Our MP Alex Barros-Curtis has written to the Interim CEO of the Co-op to see whether they could help
