Parc Radur Play Area

The new Play Area

Work is complete on the new hard standing play area at Parc Radur. This area will also be used for Community events such as the “Concert in the Parc” organised by the Radyr and Morganstown Association.

It was hoped that this area would be have been available for the 2011 Festival event.

This will provide a permanent area for play with an all weather finished surface. The park suffers from boggy conditions in heavy rain. The goal posts can be serviced from either the hard standing or the grass area.

Hopefully it will also deter children from using the closed activity area, playing football and other ball games.

Two new shops open in Station Road

Patricia and Gemma in their new shop

We are delighted to report that a new shop – Vintage Gem – has opened in Station Road next to the cleaners. This shop, and the one next door which was for a short time ‘The Lily Pad’, has been vacant for quite a long time so it is good to see new traders.

Patricia Nilsen and Gemma Symes (mother and daughter from Taffs Well) have been collecting curios and accessories for some time – mainly from the 1920s onwards – and have decided to open this shop to share some of their enthusiasm. In there you will find a range of interesting items from cake stands to furniture to specialist soaps and exclusively designed cards.

Pop in and have a look to see what they have. We welcome them to Radyr and wish them well in their new venture.

If you want to contact them then they are at 1b Station Road. Telephone 07790 732857, vintagegem@hotmail.co.uk.

Taff Trail creatures in Station Road

Keith receives his award

At the last meeting of the Station Road Traders Association, the traders decided to congratulate Keith John for designing the hanging basket brackets which now adorn the shops in Station Road. We have waited a long time for the 15 creatures (all to be found on the Taff Trail) to appear but the traders – and we – are delighted with the result

The creatures, soon to be accompanied by their own hanging baskets, are the final stage of the Station Road ‘regeneration scheme’ organised and paid for by Cardiff Council. Completion of the scheme was also one of the R&M Village Plan projects.

The picture shows Keith John being awarded some baskets of goodies by the acting chairman of the Traders Association, Alan (Veg Vendor), and Matthew White.

We are delighted with the result and congratulate Keith on a superb piece of public art which should rank alongside the the famous ‘animal wall’ in Cardiff Castle!

Tell all your friends to come and have a look.

Volunteers Needed

Are you able to spare a few hours on the morning of Bank Holiday Monday, 2nd May?

Radyr Primary PTA has hosted the Festival Fun Run for nearly 30 years. This year because of the Easter Holidays and the long Bank Holiday Weekend, we are struggling to get the required number of people needed so the race can run.

We need people to help Marshal along the route. As a volunteer you will have a clear role and be well supported.

If you can help, please get in touch with Beverley Lewis, the event organiser on lewisbj@ntlworld.com or 029 2090 2068.

Thank you.

Jane Hughes, Chair, Radyr Primary PTA.

The question has been asked about dog waste. This can be placed in the litter bins as long as it is the special green disposable bags. A stock of these bags can be found in the library.

Station Road Cafe to reopen

The new Restaurant

As previously reported, ‘Cafe Lazio’ has been taken over by Alan and Mary ‘Veg Vendor’ and will now be known as ‘Seasons Kitchen and Bar’. Supported by Jill, they re-opened for business on Wednesday, 8th December.

Opening hours are from 09:00, starting with a good Welsh breakfast, moving through ‘Light bites’ and lunch, to a children’s menu and afternoon tea, and ‘fine dining’ from 18:00 until 22:00. They are serving traditional British food with a modern and seasonal flavour. There is also a bar with wines from around the world, plus beers, lager and cider.

The food is cooked by two new cooks, Huw and Daniel, who have previously worked on Cruise Liners. So you can be assured of the highest standards.

We wish all of them well in their new venture.

Alan and Mary will, of course, continue to run Veg Vendor.

If you want further information, or to make a booking, contact Alan on 029 2084 4759.
